SPECIES: DRAGON MOTHS

Dragon moths are a moth based species that are native to hot, dry, and arid environments along with biomes that feature seasonal heavy rains. Their diets mainly consist of spices, fruits (especially sour citrus), small animals, and plants. Their natural deposition is to err on the side of caution. Especially in environments where they are unsure of who or what to trust. Once you have befriended a Dragon moth they tend to be laid back and over all pretty friendly. With that in mind however if you were to scare a Dragon Moth they will utilize their defensive acidic spray which depending on their diet- the potency of said acid can be as high as 300 degrees Fahrenheit! So it is recommended that before you approach a Dragon moth- especially from behind to make your presence well known. This holds especially true for non sentient variants that have been observed to spray at anything that catches them off guard.

DIET

As stated above Dragon moths have a diet that mainly consists of fruit, spices, plants, and small animals. How acidic and dangerous their acids are is entirely dependent on how much spice and sour citrus they eat on a daily basis. Due to this fact many Dragon Moths who choose to live in heavily populated areas like Mew York are required by law to consume only a certain amount of spices and citrus fruit a day. Enough so that they can still defend themselves if they are attacked, but harmless enough that they don't cause extreme damage to individuals who scare them on accident and the surrounding environment.
While the government is doing this out of the welfare of it's citizens many Dragon moths do not feel comfortable at the level of potency they have to keep their acids. Not to mention that they often self regulate themselves anyway. The reason being that a Dragon Moth that consumes far too much spice and citrus will begin to have wing deterioration due to their internal high pH content. Their wings are very important to them for it helps them acquire their foods of choice, and provides a secondary getaway from enemies resistant to their acids.

AFFINITIES

By default all Dragon Moths inherit the Poison affinity. Depending on the environment they can acquire the fire, air, and earth affinities and all of their subtypes. Granted that for Air and Earth gaining such an affinity is rare, and would often require said individual to be present in the environment for a very long time. If individuals with dual affinities have children they don't necessarily gain the affinity of their parents, but it is much easier for them to become said affinity should they find themselves in similar environments as their parents when they gained their other affinity.

Dragon moths do not handle water and it's subtypes, Crystal and it's subtypes, and Psi and it's sub types very well...at all. Dragon moths especially don't handle water very well. Odd considering how they live in places that have regional rainfall. Water makes everything about them soggy and sluggish. It also makes the susceptible to various illnesses. The reason they put up with rain prone environments is because it's very easy to acquire their favorite foods. They deal with this by simply building well made, well insulated, and waterproof homes that does an excellent job keeping the water outside.

IN RELATION TO OTHER SPECIES

In general Dragon Moths deal with other species quite well. At least in heavily populated areas. They often like to isolate themselves when they are outside of the cities due to the rampant illegal trade of their eggs. As such many Dragon moths live in closely condensed and highly guarded living spaces if only to protect the eggs until they hatch and to ward off any raid attempts from black traders and pirates. These individuals though are only a threat to large group of Dragon moths, Dragon moth couples, and those that exhibit signs of egg laying. A lone Dragon Moth is left relatively alone.

Dragon moth centered societies are often heralded as the place to have the world's tastiest spicy cuisine. So Dragon Moth dominated areas tend to attract a lot of tourists. As a result many Dragon moths often occupy jobs as chefs. But also due to their acidic defenses they make excellent soldiers and law enforcement agents that can take down highly violent criminals.

BREEDING

Dragon moths are for the most part only able to breed with other insect species and manticores. It is not unheard of, but really rare for a Dragon moth to sire offspring with a species with no insect like genes. Of course they can breed with manticore/insect hybrids. Although the farther away a hybrid is from their insectoid/manticore roots the lower the chance of successful breeding will become.
